Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Picked Up By ABC

It shouldn't surprise people that a lot of critics and TV viewers were eagerly awaiting the announcement that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be picked up to series. This is probably ABC's most high profile series for the 2013-2014 and the reason why is completely obvious. Not only is it from Joss Whedon, creator of the critically acclaimed and beloved cult show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it's also a Marvel show that essentially spawns from Whedon's highly-grossing and incredibly popular The Avengers film from last summer.

This news comes at the end of a long week of frantic announcements from the various networks about new show pick-ups, renewals and cancellations, but it's probably the one that will definitely have people celebrating as we head into the weekend. Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon and Jed's wife, Maurissa Tancharoen (who all collaborated on Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) are penning the pilot episode.

Known cast members include: ER's Ming-Na stars as Agent Melinda May, The Avengers' Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Killing Lincoln's Brett Dalton as gruff rising star Agent Grant Ward, Elizabeth Henstridge as science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons, Iain De Caestecker as tech guru Agent Leo Fitz and Nashville's Chloe Bennet as Skye, a superhero-obsessed woman.

Rumor has it that ABC will be pushing hard for this series, perhaps beginning its marketing campaign during Sunday's Once Upon a Time season finale.

There's no doubt that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is an eagerly anticipated show for fall 2013, so we can't wait to start seeing footage of it!

Joss Whedon Doesn't Eat Unicorns

On Whedonesque, Joss Whedon published an open letter about the wild rumors about him. Read the letter here:
Hi guys.
I was going to let it slide, but I’ve got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I’m not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I’m not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I’m not making Downey money. I’m making A LOT, which is exciting. I’m not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts. A few other things about me that have been “reported” that people should take with a grain of salt:
That I throw wild Hollywood parties where everyone is naked and dancing and wild and I remember to serve enough snacks.
That I can get a movie greenlit by sighing and staring into the middle distance.
That I ate a unicorn and made it winter for three years.
That I “can write.”
Well, that’s a load off. Sorry to get so personal — the whole thing’s a bit tawdry. But honestly, it bugged me. I’m off for a nice juicy steak. There’s a place downtown that does it with rosemary butter, it tastes just like unico — like a steak.
BYE-ee! J.

Iron Man 3: Review

Standing as the first film to serve as a sequel to two film franchises, Iron Man 3 is ambitious, challenging, and unprecedented in its execution.
“Nothing’s been the same since New York,” says Tony Stark in the trailer for Iron Man 3, and it’s easy to see that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has indeed changed dramatically ever since a fallen and embittered Norse God opened a wormhole in the Manhattan sky and summoned a tribe of Chitauri (and three giant robot-snakes) to take down the human race.
Marvel films have carved a name into fun and light film-making, even the first Iron Man, with its roots planted firmly into the ground, managed to be elevate itself to true comedy with Robert Downey Jr.’s charismatic performance.
Now it’s five years later, and since it’s a follow up to the Iron Man franchise and the Avengersfranchise, Iron Man 3 carried the distinct burden of its predecessor by being forced to acknowledge and fit into a much larger universe at hand.
The film begins with a flash backward to the 90s (as introduced by the nostalgia-inducing “I’m Blue”) to establish a few long lost friends of Tony’s. From there, we’re catapulted to a terrorism-torn present, complete with a shell-shocked Tony, still traumatized by the events ofThe Avengers.
Having seen the type of power that he’ll never be able to have, Tony has been busy tinkering in his workshop on a number of different suits. Everything has changed since the first Iron Man installment. Pepper is the CEO of Stark Industries, Happy is head of security, and a terrorist named The Mandarin is making headlines for a string of explosive attacks on the American population.
